Best Management Practices (West Africa) - Latest updated guidelines

The continuing threat of piracy and crew kidnappings in the Gulf of Guinea region has led to further update of the maritime industry “Guidelines for Owners, Operators and Masters for Protection against Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea”.

The updated guidelines can be found here.

A stated objective of the Guidelines is to bridge the gap between BMP4 (guidelines applicable to Gulf of Aden / Indian Ocean transits) and the prevailing situation in the Gulf of Guinea region.

The attacks experienced in the Gulf of Guinea region are different from those of Somalia based piracy.  However, it is nonetheless recommended that these latest Guidelines should be read in conjunction with BMP4 procedures.  The BMP4 document is also available on our website here.

The Association encourages all Members involved in trade to the region to read and follow the Guidelines closely.
