Best Management Practices version 307/07/2010
In February 2009, Best Management Practices ("BMP") to Deter Piracy were issued with support from across the shipping and insurance industry. The BMP were produced and circulated to counter piracy in the Gulf of Aden and off the Indian Ocean coast of Somalia. Based on experience, an updated BMP version 3 has been issued.
The BMP are supported by the Association and by eleven industry organisations. The organisations consulted in its preparation represent the vast majority of ship owners and operators transiting the region. The Association commends the updated BMP to the membership and draws Members' attention to Circular C4-2010 on "Defences Against Piracy". All Members with ships intending to transit waters off the coast of Somalia should read the BMP and act on its recommendations.
