BMP5: Best Management Practices - Maritime Security

The BMP MS brings together previously published regional guidelines into a single, comprehensive document that offers actionable insights and advice. It emphasizes a threat and risk management process and, recognizing the ever-changing nature of regional security situations, provides guidance to the most up-to-date security intelligence and risk assessment information.

Members are advised to remove all previous versions (BMP5, BMP West Africa, and Global Counter Piracy Guidance) from their ships’ libraries and management systems and replace them with this new consolidated version.

Additionally, to complement the BMP MS, the industry associations have developed the Maritime Industry Security Threat Overview (MISTO). This overview aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of current security threats and supports the threat assessment process detailed within BMP MS. The MISTO will be updated every 3-6 months.
