Loss Prevention Bulletin - 23 August 2017

The 33,200 dwt STAR LILY was boarded by about four pirates, armed with machetes, while underway about 1.3 nm west-north-west off Helen Mar Reef (1 7.6 N, 103 45.27 E) at around 02:34 LT on 21 August. The alarm was raised and the accommodation area secured. The crew were unharmed and the pirates escaped empty handed. While reported incidents of piracy/robbery in the Straits of Malacca have decreased, ships are urged to remain vigilant in the area.
